I have just ordered a pizza from Dino’s Pizza in Burbank, CA when that first question hits.
"So, how tall are you?" - the bored cashier asked.
And now he has two options - Does he 1) ask whether I play basketball? or 2) ask this question…
DO YOU DATE SHORTER MEN?
Well ladies and gentlemen, he went with option two. Sigh…let’s start the explanation:
Of course, I date shorter guys! If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be able to date anyone. Not that there aren’t tall men out there, but, is it my imagination, or do really tall men always seem to be dating really short girls? It’s like, if you are male and reach a certain height, you want a girl and a portable hand rest who bakes.
Occasionally, I will see a tall guy with a tall girl. The girl from Nashville was 6’1” and her husband was 6’6”. The thought of their children makes me giddy.
The thought of tall guy and short girl’s children makes me, well, underwhelmed.
But let’s get back to dating. I don’t think a single one of my boyfriends has been taller than me. They’re not much shorter than me. I tend to stick with guys who are 5’10” or 5’11” but there is still a difference. When we hug, I’m not suffocating in his chest. Sometimes, he make me stand on a lower stair than him, so he can see what it would feel like. But mostly, we forget. It doesn’t really affect anything at all (except shoe choices).
Although I used to be height obsessed. When I was in high school, I threw myself on the only tall guy at the school. I didn’t really like him, I liked the idea of us dating. After a few embarrassing days and nights (or years), I realized that I would be much happier, if I stopped going after the idea of a man being taller than a girl.
I can say that tall guys do catch my eye at the bar. Maybe it’s because we are both a head above everyone else but it could also mean that I would prefer to date a tall guy. But when it gets right down to it, the tall guys I’ve dated haven’t been the ones I liked.
So of course I date guys who are shorter than me, Pizza Cashier!
P.S. I also realize that the Bored Pizza Cashier might have just been interested in me and was wondering if he stood a chance. Or at least, that’s what I would like to believe.
